ERB Rail and Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnija launch regular meetings with Ķekava Municipality
Representatives of the Rail Baltica project implementation team – specialists from Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnija and ERB Rail, the contractor responsible for constructing the new Rail Baltica mainline – have launched regular meetings with the Ķekava Municipality. Construction and site preparation works continue on the southern section of the Rail Baltica mainline, with active construction currently taking place across approximately 30 km within seven construction permits. Current works include deforestation, construction of access roads, development of the Infrastructure Maintenance Facility near Iecava, as well as scanning and neutralisation of unexploded ordnance. The works are coordinated by Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas in cooperation with Latvijas valsts meži, while construction works are carried out by ERB Rail. 90% of Info Day attendees in Iecava acknowledge that they are sufficiently informed about the implementation of the Rail Baltica project in the Bauska Municipality
This is evidenced by an express survey conducted during the Rail Baltica Information Day on April 29 at the Iecava Culture House. Work on access roads is ongoing in the southern section of the Rail Baltica mainline (+video)
During the active construction phase of Rail Baltica in the Bauska municipality, access roads to the main railway line are being built. These access roads will be used both for the delivery of construction materials for the Rail Baltica railway line and, after the completion of the railway, for ensuring its operation. ERB Rail has currently engaged 20 local companies in the implementation of the southern section of the Rail Baltica project, from Misa to the Lithuanian border. Latvian subcontractors provide both part of the project's supply chain and construction and support services in a wide range of areas - from design and earthworks to infrastructure construction, engineering communications, environmental services, concrete testing, provision of machinery and equipment, and other works. Temperatures below −20°C facilitate deforestation works in the marshy Southern Section of the main line (+video)
Prolonged winter conditions and frost are facilitating deforestation works on the Southern Section of the Rail Baltica mainline. The mainline territory from Misa toward the Lithuanian border includes several marshy areas, which pose challenges for the logging process. Due to the severe frost, the ground base in marshes and along riverbanks is sufficiently frozen for logging machinery to operate even in winter conditions. At present, deforestation works are nearing completion in the section that was first handed over for logging and subsequent construction in December 2025. Another 19 kilometers of the southern section of the Rail Baltica main line have been handed over for construction
EDzL and the main line builder ERB Rail have signed the act of commencement of construction works on the next three building permits for 19.62 kilometers, and the main line construction works can start on this section as well. Initially, these three construction permits will be used for basic works such as deforestation, stump removal and unexploded ordnance scanning.
