ERB Rail and Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnija launch regular meetings with Ķekava Municipality

Representatives of the Rail Baltica project implementation team – specialists from Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnija and ERB Rail, the contractor responsible for constructing the new Rail Baltica mainline – have launched regular meetings with the Ķekava Municipality.

Currently, the priority southern section of the Rail Baltica mainline (Lithuanian border–Misa) borders the next construction section in central Latvia. Ķekava Municipality neighbours Bauska Municipality, where active construction works are already underway.

In preparation for the start of mainline construction under the first two construction permits in Ķekava Municipality, Oskars Geide, Rail Baltica Mainline Project Manager at Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, and Mārcis Grieznis, Technical Project Manager for Construction Works at Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, met with representatives of the Ķekava Municipality on 28 May to present the latest developments in design and construction activities within the municipality.

There are 11 construction permits issued for the Rail Baltica mainline within Ķekava Municipality. The nearest planned construction procurements in and around the municipality include the development of the mainline section from the border of Ķekava and Baldone municipalities to Vārpu Road, a section in Iecava Municipality, as well as the relocation of a 110 kV high-voltage power line and a gas transmission pipeline.

Māris Saukāns, Stakeholder Manager at ERB Rail, shared experience from neighbouring Bauska Municipality, where Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, together with ERB Rail, maintains regular dialogue with local authorities and residents. This includes meetings with businesses and community groups, as well as the now well-established Rail Baltica Information Days, during which project specialists answer questions from residents about the Rail Baltica project.

The next meeting with Ķekava Municipality is scheduled for September. Rail Baltica Information Days for local residents are also planned for the autumn.
