Construction of the regional Rail Baltica office starts near Iecava

Construction of a regional office, which will be the main coordination centre for the construction of the southern section of the main route from the Lithuanian border to Misa, has started at the construction site of the future Rail Baltica Infrastructure Maintenance Facility near Iecava.
The base of the regional office has been constructed with concrete slabs and modules on several floors are being delivered and installed. It is expected that, as construction work gathers pace, the regional office near Iecava will provide around 200 jobs.
The regional office will not only house the teams of Rail Baltica main line builder ERB Rail and its subcontractors, but also Rail Baltica project promoter in Latvia, Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas , – engineer and supervision representatives – the full regional project management team.
The construction of an infrastructure service point for the northern section is planned in Skulte, where a similar office will be built in the future to house the construction team for the northern section of Rail Baltica.
In addition to the construction of the regional office, intensive excavation works and construction of the internal infrastructure continue on the Iecava Infrastructure Maintenance Facility site.
Currently, approximately one kilometre of internal access roads have been constructed on the site – a 650 metre section of access road R2 and a 300 metre access road from the national local road V9 “Iecava-Baldone-Daugmale”.
To date, approximately 76 000 m2 of stumps have been removed from the site and more than 79 200 m3 of topsoil has been removed. The ERB Rail team has excavated 18 800 m3 of soil, while approximately 28 000 m3 of soil has been removed off-site.
An embankment of 70 400 m3 has been constructed at the Iecava Regional Maintenance Centre site. The protection layer has been laid in a volume of 9140 m3. The construction site is located parallel to the planned main route for approximately one and a half kilometres and is being constructed as an embankment to reach approximately the same height as the planned Rail Baltica main route.
The construction of the main line of Rail Baltica in Latvia starts on the southern section Misa-Lithuanian border, which is divided into smaller sections – 11 construction permits in total.
The approximately 16-hectare site of the Iecava Infrastructure Maintenance Facility will serve as a strategic logistics base and temporary office for the construction of the southern section of the main line for the main line builder ERB Rail.
