Rail Baltica project progress discussed with councils representing Iecava residents

At the construction base of the southern section of the Rail Baltica mainline near Iecava, representatives of the project implementer and contractor met with advisory councils of residents from the town and parish of Iecava, as well as representatives of the Iecava municipal administration, to provide updates on the project and hear residents’ questions.
During the meeting, Jānis Naglis, Member of the Management Board of the national implementing body Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, explained the scope of the project in Latvia and emphasized the priority of establishing a functioning European-gauge railway connection with Lithuania and Estonia.
Meanwhile, Māris Saukāns, representative of the mainline contractor ERB Rail, informed attendees about the progress of construction works on the southern section (Lithuanian border–Misa). Currently, works are taking place along approximately 30 km across seven construction permits, with the goal of beginning the construction of the railway embankment. The priority southern section is about 45 km long and is divided into 11 construction permits.
Residents actively inquired about road and overpass solutions and the organization of freight traffic. Project representatives indicated that solutions are being developed in cooperation with Bauska Municipality and other institutions, while traffic flows are being planned to minimize the impact on local traffic. Gatis Gaņģītis, Senior Technical Expert at Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, added that an agreement has been concluded with the municipality regarding road maintenance during the construction works.
At the end of the meeting, participants visited the construction coordination base, where the day-to-day planning of the Rail Baltica southern section takes place. This coordination base is located within the 16-hectare territory of the Rail Baltica southern section Infrastructure Maintenance Centre. Representatives of the local community were able to observe the ongoing construction works at the site.
Approximately 15 participants attended the meeting on March 27, including members of the Iecava Parish Residents’ Advisory Council, the Iecava Town Residents’ Advisory Council, and the Iecava municipal administration.

The meeting with representatives of the Iecava community is part of a series of regular meetings organized by the Rail Baltica implementer Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas and the main line contractor ERB Rail. In March, a meeting was held in Ķekava Parish, and in February in Limbaži Municipality. Previously, Rail Baltica Information Days and meetings with business communities in Bauska Municipality have also taken place.
