Significant progress has been made at the construction site

Significant progress has been made at the construction site of the future Rail Baltica infrastructure maintenance facility near Iecava, where excavation works and construction of internal infrastructure are currently underway.
The Iecava site is the first active large-scale construction phase on the Rail Baltica main route in Latvia. More than two kilometres of internal access roads are currently being constructed at the site, which will serve as an essential foundation for the future functions of the service point. Topsoil removal is underway in the area where the permanent southern regional office building of the Rail Baltica Infrastructure Service Point is planned (a second service point is planned in Skulte, on the northern part of the main route). One of the main access roads is undergoing embankment works and a layer of ballast protection, while another access road has already been completed.
Following the deforestation works carried out by Rail Baltica project promoter in Latvia, European Rail Lines , on the main line and infrastructure maintenance point, the team of the main line builder ERB Rail has cleared 13 000 m2 of trees and bushes. To date, approximately 70 000 m2 of stumps have been removed from the site and more than 43 000 m3 of topsoil has been removed.
The works have been organised in close cooperation with the local authorities, the operational services and other stakeholders, with particular attention paid to respecting environmental requirements and the interests of the residents, and to minimising the impact of the ongoing construction works on the local community.
The latest photos of the construction site show the increasing activity on this important site, which will be crucial for the long-term operational operation of the southern section of the Rail Baltica main line in Latvia.
Earlier this month, ERB Rail, the builder of the European Railway Line and Rail Baltica main line, signed a deed for the start of large-scale construction works on the Rail Baltica main line.
