Active construction works on Rail Baltica mainline set to begin soon in Iecava
As preparations for the active construction phase of the Rail Baltica mainline are underway, Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, together with the general contractor ERB Rail, will organize informational days about the mainline construction from December 11 to 13 at the Iecava Cultural Center. During these events, local residents and interested parties will have the opportunity to learn more about the construction process and how this infrastructure project will impact the Bauska region and the local community.
On 11 December, Rail Baltica’s national implementing body in Latvia – Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas – along with the Ministry of Transport, ERB Rail, the Iecava Association Administration, and the Bauska Municipality Council, will provide partner organizations with updates on the upcoming works planned in the Iecava area for this year and 2025. They will also introduce the mainline construction team.
Residents are invited to attend the informational days at the Iecava Cultural Center on 12 and 13 December to get acquainted with materials on the mainline construction and meet with experts from Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas and ERB Rail. Questions can also be sent in advance to the email address: [email protected].
The meeting with residents on 12 December is scheduled from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and on 13 December from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Information about the informational days for local residents will also be provided in the Bauskas Novada Vēstnesis.
The Chairman of the Board of Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, Ēriks Diļevs, stated: “The implementation of the Rail Baltica project in Latvia has entered the next phase. In collaboration with the construction company, utility network holders, and state and municipal institutions, all necessary preparatory work has been completed to commence construction on the mainline section in the Bauska region near Iecava. In this phase, particular emphasis has been placed on planning the required resources and infrastructure, as well as building a strong team to ensure the construction progresses successfully.”
Andy Swift, Project Management Director at ERB Rail, added: “In preparation for the active construction phase of the mainline, we are organizing meetings with local residents in close cooperation with Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas and the Iecava Association Administration. These meetings aim to provide information about the progress of the construction launch in an open dialogue format and address the most important questions from residents.”
The mainline construction involves the development of the Rail Baltica infrastructure outside Riga city. The contractor will be responsible for building approximately 230 kilometers of Rail Baltica mainline infrastructure. This includes constructing the track substructure and superstructure, preparing the land, building embankments, railway bridges, roads, underground crossings, and overpasses, relocating engineering networks, and installing tracks and ballast.
