The mainline territory from Misa toward the Lithuanian border includes several marshy areas, which pose challenges for the logging process.

Due to the severe frost, the ground base in marshes and along riverbanks is sufficiently frozen for logging machinery to operate even in winter conditions. At present, deforestation works are nearing completion in the section that was first handed over for logging and subsequent construction in December 2025. As a result, logging along 30 kilometers of the future Rail Baltica railway line in the Southern Section will be completed within the next month, and 200 hectares will be cleared of trees out of the total 250 hectares planned for deforestation in the southern section.

12.02.2026.

Prolonged winter conditions and frost are facilitating deforestation works on the Southern Section of the Rail Baltica mainline.
